Glaucoma Services

Glaucoma is often referred to as the “silent killer” of the eye, as it can lead to irreversible vision loss without warning signs. This condition can manifest in two primary forms: open-angle glaucoma, which is typically painless and progresses gradually, and closed-angle glaucoma, which can lead to acute attacks and significant discomfort. In India, the incidence of glaucoma is approximately 12 million, making early detection and management crucial to prevent vision loss.

At Kamla Eye Clinic, we are renowned for our expertise in glaucoma management. Our comprehensive evaluation includes a series of specialized tests to accurately assess your eye health:

  • IOP Check-Up by GAT (Goldmann Applanation Tonometry): Measures intraocular pressure, which is vital in diagnosing glaucoma.
  • Gonioscopy: Examines the angle where the iris meets the cornea, helping to determine the type of glaucoma.
  • OCT ONH (Optical Coherence Tomography of the Optic Nerve Head): Provides detailed images of the optic nerve, allowing for early detection of damage.
  • Perimetry: Assesses the visual field to identify any loss of peripheral vision associated with glaucoma.

Most cases of glaucoma can be effectively managed with medication. However, some patients may require additional treatments, including:

  • YAG PI Laser (Laser Peripheral Iridotomy): A procedure to create a small hole in the peripheral iris to relieve intraocular pressure in closed-angle glaucoma.
  • Glaucoma Filtration Surgery: Creates a new drainage path for fluid to reduce pressure in the eye.
  • iStent Surgery: Involves the implantation of a tiny device to help drain fluid and lower eye pressure.
  • Tube Shunt Surgery: Involves placing a small tube to help drain fluid from the eye.
  • Endoscopic Cyclophotocoagulation (ECP): A minimally invasive surgery that reduces the production of fluid in the eye.

It is essential for patients to understand that glaucoma is a chronic disorder requiring ongoing management. Regular check-ups and follow-ups are crucial to maintaining a healthy optic nerve and preserving vision. At Kamla Eye Clinic, we are dedicated to providing comprehensive care and support for all our glaucoma patients, ensuring the best possible outcomes.
